Dr. Aleksandra Wierzbowski

Dr. Aleksandra Wierzbowski is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Vaccine and Drug Evacuation Centre (VDEC) in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. 

Prior to joining VDEC, Dr. Wierzbowski, has been affiliated with Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Manitoba where she obtained her PhD. Her PhD focused on molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and multi-drug resistance, the spread and virulence factors as well as vaccine effectiveness among Streptococcus pneumoniae obtained from across Canada.  To date, her work has been authored in more than 20 published articles, 8 as a first author, and numerous poster presentation at national and international conferences.    During her PhD Aleksandra has been awarded the Manitoba Health Research Council Studentship and is a recipient of the Post-Doctoral Canadian Immunization Research Network (CIRN) trainee award.

Her research interests include vaccine preventable diseases, particularly pneumococcal, vaccine safety and effectiveness.
