William Bowie

Former acting director of the UBC Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Bowie is an Infectious Diseases clinician, and a Professor of Medicine at the UBC, where he has been since 1977. Virtually all of his research and activities have involved public health issues: sexually transmitted diseases; infections relating to travel, water, food, and animals; antimicrobial use and resistance in humans and animals; outbreak investigations; and development of strong public health capability. He is particularly interested in the social, economic and environmental factors which put people at risk for infection.
