UPDATE FROM THE NETWORK LEAD
DR. JULIE BETTINGER
CANVAS initiated its ninth annual infl uenza vaccine safety
surveillance campaign, with more than 40,000 participants
providing safety data. CANVAS submitted weekly safety
reports to the Public Health Agency of Canada from October
to December, 2017. Safety information on the following seven
infl uenza vaccines were captured: Flumist, Fluviral, Vaxigrip,
Agrifl u, Fluzone, Infl uvac and Fluad. No unexpected side
eff ects were observed in adults or children following the 2017
infl uenza vaccine campaign, although a slightly higher rate of
events was reported among 2017 vaccinees.
In addition to the monitoring seasonal infl uenza vaccine
safety, CANVAS will continue to monitor vaccine safety for
other and new vaccines, and provide a platform for vaccine
acceptability studies.
