Provincial Collaborative Network (PCN)

CIRN’s new Provincial Collaborative Network (PCN) capitalizes on the

extensive research capabilities in provincial health agencies, research
institutions, and departments of health, to provide a collaborative platform
in which to undertake evaluative, programmatic, applied public health
research. The PCN assesses vaccine safety, eff ectiveness, and coverage,
including the use of both aggregate and linkable individual-level, large,

highly powered datasets available to provinces. The network also
possesses the capability to use standardized methodologies that could be
used across provinces for evaluation. Currently, PCN has several projects

underway.

Assessing Rotavirus Vaccine Safety in Canada with
Regard to Intussusceptions Using Administrative
Data studies the safety of the publicly-funded rotavirus
vaccine program in Canada, and specifi cally examines
whether there is an increase in intussusception
incidence among infants in Canada following the
introduction of programs.

The objective of Evaluation and Gap Analysis of
Federal and P/T Systems and Methodologies Used
to Assess Immunization Coverage is to conduct an
evaluation and gap analysis of the current information
systems, data sources and methodologies used within
Canada to conduct immunization coverage assessment.

The goal of the Determinants of Immunological
Protection from Household Transmission of
Pertussis during Outbreaks: Pilot for Outbreak
Responsive Research project is to pilot a study
investigating household transmission of pertussis at the
immunological level. The study will identify and address
methodological, logistical and feasibility issues ahead of
a larger study.

Canada Using Administrative Data is to investigate and including the impact of waning immunity.
